  • Macy and I camped out in the living room this whole weekend. We pulled the mattress from our bedroom and put it right in front of the TV. I watched a manly movie. Macy worked on the laptop. Then we watched a chick flick. We stayed up late and I ate way too much food. I had the most amazing craving for pasta and beef. So I jumped up and made some. I don’t think I have ever had a craving and ate it so quick.

Paul is off at the marines. Our whole family is writing him letters to encourage him and make him laugh. We just don’t have the address yet, so we are stacking them up. We should get it in the next couple days.

While he is gone I am “safekeeping” some of his things. I am putting his iPhone to good use. I need something organize my schedule for a while as my Palm has recently died. So I am testing it out to see if I want it or the Pre. So far I like the iPhone a bunch.
Before you go judging me for my gadget, having something to keep me organized has been great for my marriage. Macy tells me and I can put it on the schedule right away. She doesn’t nag me EVER! (This is a good thing in case you couldn’t guess)

We went on a weeklong vacation to Oklahoma to see Macy’s family. They are so much fun to hang out with. I almost participated in chores, but I decided to film it instead. We ate a lot of food, (about my body weight) and played lots of games together. We also went hiking in the Wichita mountains, which I was there before I realized they are in OK, not Wichita Kansas. We saw buffalo and longhorn. It was quite the trip.

My first week back from vacation has been great. My work shedual has changed from 4 10 hour shifts to 5 8 hour shifts. I go into work at 6 and leave at 2:30. that means I eat lunch and leave. So just as I am back into the groove of work its quitting time. I have way more evening time to do all sorts of things.
Thursday was all sorts of fun. I am making “pan supports” which I guess support some kind of pan. But like most things we make there I just read the plans and assemble it, I have no clue what it’s for. I have 66 of the same thing. I should be done with them Monday morning. I had Thursday and Friday to work on them. They are just a tube on a bottom plate and an angle on top of it.

Friday I woke up angry, no clue why. But why not? By lunch I was ok, I just needed to calm down and relax. I am working a bit harder and its hard to switch from working frenzy to husband. I was transferred from bay 3 to bay 2, (there are 4 sections at work, each one has it’s own supervisor.) Recently the shop foreman and one of the supervisors were transferred to another division of our company.

That meant a lot of switching around in the shop. I now have a supervisor that pushes hard and appreciates hard work. How convenient! I like to work hard, it makes the day pass a little faster and sweating is biblical. Anyway, he said if I work hard I will get a promotion. I am still in shop helper classification and am 6 months overdue for a “fitter” title. Next month cost of living is coming, and in January they will be dolling out raises. I have a little while to prove my worth. The difference is this time I have somebody watching me work. Instead of judging based on weather they like me or not.

I am working on my bible study on the armor of God. I have been looking for something to study for a while now, because I have just been reading random chapter, which is ok I guess, but there is no accountability for my growth. Now I have something I am looking for so I can more easily document what I am reading.

I am still working on it so I will post on it next time. It’s a bit confusing to read right now. I am very excited about the insights I have on the subject, I hope they will be very helpful to others.

Next week I am going to re-attempt to get into our local college. I was home schooled so I am a special case. Getting time to do what I need to do was difficult on my old work schedule. Now I have more time before they close so I should be able to enroll for spring semester. I am hoping to get an auto-cad certification, with an end goal of structural engineer. My company will reimburse me for all expenses, so I am very excited.

That’s the general overview of what is happening in my life

  • Firepoker Set-- Progress

I made 2 of the 3 for the fire poker set. I still need to buy the strands for the broom, I have the star made, and I am going to bind the loose fibers with a 1/4 inch round rod, like the handle of the other two tools.

Here is a closeup of the handle. on the broom instead of a steel center it will be bristle, and a little bigger around, the bristle will expand naturally after the handle/binding.

It is still raw steel, i have to sand it down smooth and paint it.

The stand is not even started yet, but i will make it a round rod, with WHR on the top of it.

  • Firepoker Set--Ideas

I am making a fire iron set. with a western/rustic feel.

To start things off I have no idea how to make one, so we go online to see what is out there. plagerism is one source, research is many sources... so we will find a couple blacksmith sites and see what other people came up with.
    top detail
I kinda like the twisted handle, but it's not western.

    Big Bull Fireplace Set

it's western, but too "Texas" we want something more lonestar, not longhorn.

    texas star

here is the star I am looking for

I am thinking of having a star as the base, and a star on the top as a decoration.
she said she wanted a star on each poker about halfway down. I wonder how many stars it too many.

I also need to consider strength/weight in these. If I make the poker too small it will bend, if it's too big, then it will be to heavy to use. Do I use square bar or round rod? If square, do I twist it? if yes, do I do it the whole way, or just a few for decoration?

    FirePlace Handles 2
the one on the right has a few twists, but it makes it look too processed. I need them to look like they are home-made.
    very rough looking.

    Fire Place Handles 1
I like the one on the left. Although, the loop is still too much. It would be better if i just put a larger end on it, to catch a V on the stand. It will be easer to make, feel better on the hand, and be much more rustic.

I very much like this broom and dustpan. They are small enough to use. also, this broom is more rustic than the traditional wide plastic bristle broom. I could buy a straw broom at wall-mart and use weld wire to strap it together, then weld the straps to a handle. it will be very rough... thats a good thing, I think.

these are just a few construction ideas. the design work has yet to be announced. She will get me the design whenever she gets around to it.
